Mrs. Esther Esosa Esizimetor

Welfare Officer, SNA Edo State Chapter

Esther Esosa Esizimetor is Lecturer and Head of Painting Unit at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts. She holds degrees in MFA Painting (Benin) 2018; PGDE (Kaduna) 2013; MA Visual Art (Ibadan) 2006; B.A. Painting (Benin) 1998; Dip. Social Work (Benin) 1995. Since she joined the department in 2014 she has taught several undergraduate courses at the department, as well as masters courses as an associate lecturer at the Institute of Education. Esther has her research focused on the artistic aspect of Benin culture in relation to royalty, women and the lesser known arts of pottery and apothecary. Currently, her Ph.D. research focuses on documenting women in market places, by exploring the use of impressionistic paintings to document and highlight the current and actual activities of women in commercial spaces which she will be defending this year. She has participated in both national and international academic conferences, paper presentations and exhibitions. Esther has had a solo exhibition, organized and participated in many group exhibitions. She is a member of the Arts Council for African Studies Association (ACASA), Nigerian Association of Female Artists (NAFA), Painting for Social Change Initiative (PSCI), and the Society of Nigerian Artist (SNA) and was a recent visiting artist at the Archives and Collections at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland for February 2025. Esther is married to David and they live with their children in Benin City.
