A special highlight of the programme is the official launch of the Imiefan Journal, the new publication of SNA Edo Chapter, dedicated to advancing art research, critique and documentation. The event will also feature the presentation of awards to distinguished members, honoring their outstanding contributions to the growth of the Nigerian art community. On 22nd November 2021, the University of Benin (UNIBEN), one of Africa’s leading institutions, marked its 50th anniversary in grand style after a year’s delay due to the pandemic. To honour the milestone, the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Edo Chapter, in collaboration with UNIBEN’s Department of Fine and Applied Arts, hosted “The 50th Golden Strokes”, a vibrant exhibition celebrating art, culture and academic excellence. The event featured awards to outstanding artists and scholars, exhibitions by students and professionals and tributes from distinguished figures, affirming UNIBEN’s legacy as a powerhouse of creativity and scholarship. There is no better time to visit Benin City than on festive occasions, on a day of celebration when the city's cultural flowering is in full bloom. That is what played out from Sunday 19 to Saturday 26 of October 2019, when Oba Ewuare II's third coronation anniversary and birthday coincided with the week-long National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) organised by the National Commission for Arts and Culture (NCAC) and hosted by Edo State.
