Segun Monsuru Adeleye is a Nigerian ceramic artist, painter and art educator, known for his emotive style and innovative fusion of terracotta and metal to convey thought-provoking narratives. A native of Igbogila in Yewa-North, Ogun State, Adeleye was born in Ota, Ogun State, where he was deeply influenced by the rich African traditional and eclectic art culture that surrounded him.
Encouraged by his creative parents, his mother, a mathematics teacher and his father, an automobile engineer, Adeleye’s artistic journey began early. He had his primary education at Ansar-ud-Deen Nursery and Primary School, Ota, where he represented the school in the Iganmode Day Art Competition (2001), earning a second-place prize. He later attended Iganmode Grammar School, Ota, where he continued to develop his artistic skills.
He earned both his Bachelor’s (2013) and Master’s degrees (2021) in Fine and Applied Arts (Ceramics Major) from the University of Benin, Benin City. His academic training sharpened his technique and helped shape his distinctive artistic voice.
